47th Annual Chicago Pride Parade Recap

Chicago Pride

On June 26th, the 47th annual Chicago Pride Parade hit the streets.  Though the forecast called for thunderstorms, the streets were full and the sun shone as the Parade kicked off at noon.

While the nation-wide legalization of same-sex marriage colored the 2015 Pride Parade, this year the tragedy in Orlando was clearly at the forefront of everyone’s minds.  A tribute to the 49 lives lost in the attack at Pulse headed up the parade.  Further signs of solidarity appeared throughout the Parade on banners, t-shirts, and floats.  chicago+pride+062616+5

But the 2016 Chicago Pride Parade was by no means a solemn affair.  Floats featured music and dancing.  Beads and bracelets flew through the air.  Pride flags decorated floats, cars, motorcycles, clothing, and nearby buildings.  Despite recent events, the Chicago Pride Parade remained, at heart, a celebration.

Chicago politicians, sports teams, schools, television stations, and more were represented in the Parade.  Organizations like PFLAG and the Chicago Gender Society were also present, and once again Balloons by Tommy did not disappoint, creating a fantastic display of balloon art for the event.

The crowd was in good spirits, and it was uplifting to be surrounded by so many people celebrating life and love in the city of Chicago.1402244_800x450
